The Santa Train

Since 1943 the official arrival of the Christmas season has been marked by the shrill scream of a train whistle as the “Santa Special” makes its way from Shelby, Kentucky to Kingsport, Tennessee stopping along the way to deliver toys and other goodies to the crowds gathered at spots along the track.  In St. Paul, the train makes a stop next to the post office where our kids (and adults) swarm the caboose to get a glimpse at Santa and catch a goodie or two tossed into the crowd.  The Kingsport Chamber of Commerce and the Clinchfield Railroad are responsible for this continuing tradition.  For more information about the Santa Train and the current schedule, contact the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce or visit www.kingsportchamber.org.
